On June 17, UW PROPEL Northwest and Fred Hutch Cancer Center proudly hosted their inaugural Postbaccalaureate Symposium!

The symposium brought together postbaccalaureate trainees from both programs to celebrate and showcase their research accomplishments through trainee presentations, lightning talks, and a poster session. Spanning both the University of Washington and Fred Hutch campuses, the event highlighted the outstanding science being conducted by our Scholars while fostering connections and collaboration across our institutions.

The day was filled with engaging discussions, new connections, and inspiring research. We had a wonderful time celebrating our trainees and look forward to making the Postbaccalaureate Symposium an annual tradition!

This June, PROPEL Northwest welcomed the SPIN Fellows program to UW Medicine for a fun and engaging day in the lab. During the Saturday event, SPIN Fellows heard research presentations from PROPEL Scholars, toured research labs, observed a microscope demonstration, and even performed a PCR experiment.

The day also provided plenty of opportunities for Scholars and Fellows to connect over lunch, sharing their scientific interests, research experiences, and career goals. PROPEL NW was thrilled to host the SPIN Fellows and looks forward to partnering on another event in the future!

The PROPEL Northwest and Fred Hutch Postbac Scholars kicked off the summer with an exciting evening at T-Mobile Park, attending a Seattle Mariners game as one of their first community-building events.

It was a perfect night for baseball and a great opportunity to connect outside of the laboratory. The Mariners delivered an exciting performance, defeating the New York Mets 8–3.

Given the success of this year's outing, we're already looking forward to making the Mariners game an annual tradition.

Seven current PROPEL NW Scholars attended the ICIS Cytokines conference in Seattle this past October, where they each presented their research, participated in scientific sessions, and expanded their scientific networks.

Following the conference, Scholars reflected on their experiences by writing short summaries about their favorite sessions and highlights from the conference. Their summaries were recently featured in ICIS Signals on March 4. Thanks to the conference organizers and Solving for Science for supporting Scholar participation!
